FEAT is a feature documentary chronicling one man's coast-to-coast quest to run 63 marathons in 63 days for kids whose own feet lack the strength to run. Endurance runner Tim Borland seeks to raise awareness and funding for children battling the rare terminal disease, ataxia-telangiectasia or A-T. Unlocking the mysteries of this orphan disease may lead to cures for more prevalent diseases like Cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease.

FEAT exemplifies the limitless potential of the human body and spirit when focused on a goal greater than oneself.

I am pictured to left with my two good friends, Paige and Alex Champion. I had the privilege of meeting the Champion family last year just prior to the Hy-Vee Triathlon.  Paige and Alex are sisters that live in the Des Moines area and both suffer from A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia).

A-T is a fatal genetic disease characterized by progressive weakening of the immune system, nervous system, and other bodily systems. Affected children typically develop difficulty walking, problems with balance, abnormal eye movements, and slurred speech as well as chronic lung infections and increased risk of developing cancer, particularly leukemia and lymphoma. They are usually wheelchair bound by the age of ten. Though some diagnosed with A-T live into adulthood, their life expectancy is reduced tremendously.

Two years ago I became involved with A-T Children’s Project after meeting the Veldink family.  The Veldinks also have two daughters, Kate and Olivia, that suffer from A-T.  In January, 2007, I raced the Disney Half Marathon in support of the A-T Children's Project for the first time.   My life was changed that weekend after meeting all the amazing families that struggle with this rare disease every day.  It has become a passion of mine to help find a cure for this horrible disease.  Learn how you can make a difference in the lives of these kids and families that struggle with A-T by visiting www.atcp.org
